Update
So I began a Homebrew beer this week past. I started it on Wednesday actually, its a brown sugar lager which I am very interested to taste. The only problem with making your own beer...You want to taste it NOW and not in a couple weeks when its finally all fermented, bottled, and carbonated. I plan on bottling this batch around the middle of next week, and sampling about 5 days later. Very excited to see how it turns out.

Home Brew
Well here we are again, another day and I find myself with a few minutes to spit out what I'm doing to the void of cyberspace. Yup, grand. Its kind of fun to write and ponder, even when no one is reading...Maybe I should write a book so no one can read that..Could be an idea.
Another Idea which has pushed its way into my mind is that I would like to make home brewed alcoholic beverages. Eventually I want to make a beer, but have been experimenting with cheaply made fermented juices, in small 4L batches. So far its been interesting but I haven't quite achieved anything ground breaking or worth writing home about. I'm actually on my way to the store in a few minutes to pick up some apple juice in a second attempt to make some cider. Last time I made the mistake of topping up my jug with chlorinated tap water, not even thinking. The yeast didn't live very long to say the least. There was some fermentation but not near enough. So here we go with round 2.
I think all this came about as an idea for a cheap alternative to beer, but man...I really love beer. I should make a beer. But I don't have the space at my apartment to store the resulting amount of bottles of beer. So perhaps I should brew a small batch and store it in 2L soda containers.. I know folks that do it...It does work. I however would need a large pot...malt and hops as well as yeast, an airlock and a large water cooler jug. Not sure I want to go out and buy all this right now...so Cider it is!
Did I mention I love beer?...man why cant it be cheaper. (If your Canadian you know what I'm talking about, unless you live in Quebec)
Perhaps after yesterdays thoughtful question on politics today we should end with a lighter question. What would we do in a world without beer?

The car is dead
Yes boys and girls the car has died. She made it to the shop yesterday but has a broken transmission seal. It will cost about 800 bucks to fix it, so a new car may be warranted, time will tell.
Now, lets get on to something better. Lets ponder some greatness. Today's topic, for anyone listening is a political one. Our subject is the effectiveness of VOTING! Now now...put down the pitchforks, lets not be hasty here. Some people get quite upset when we call into question the democratic system, but were all semi educated folks here, so lets consider it for a moment.
Does anyone else ever feel like no matter who gets elected, be it as prime minister or president or local official that nothing ever really changes? I mean, yes...things change..but does anything ever really change in the big picture? Sure some funds get switched around, more or less military budget from one year to the next, a little extra funding to one place or another, but in the big picture! what has really changed in the last ten years say for example. Lets see...The USA still runs off to war against whoever happens to be willing.. Canada follows along and usually remains to pick up the pieces once its all over. There are still thousands of starving and homeless people in our major citys, we're consuming fossil fuels at an alarming rate, farmers cant make a living (except dairy), we import more food to sell in local grocery stores than we do selling of our own local produce, taxes haven't changed much. I can go on and on.
We elect one official and he or she promises to change this or that, and maybe he/she does, but it is seldom more than a token gesture.
Tonight I leave you all with the question.. Does it matter who we elect to a position of office?
Please anyone stopping by the blog, leave a comment, whats your opinion?

What a day
Greetings void of cyberspace,
Just about to run off to theater practice but wanted to leave a note first. Holy cow what a day! My girlfriend who lives out of town about an hours drive away had no end to issues today. She has been having a crappy week, and today I would say took the cake. She locked her keys in her car, while it was running this morning and had to get picked up for work with it still sitting there idling. When she finally got a tow company to come and jimmy the lock she was feeling a lot better. Once she got home from work however the car was stuck on the ice in the driveway. When trying to get the car unstuck she realized that the car was not only stuck but also leaking red fluid. (transmission fluid). Just the day before this the exhaust pipe broke at one of the junctions below the manifold. I'm getting really tired of her owning this car...

Blogging
So, Here I go. Not even 24 hours into this blogging thing and after cruising some random blogs it seems like everyone is writing about either their kids...their depression, or racing, with few exceptions...why people..?? why? I'm currently supposed to be studying for mid terms...analyzing data for my fourth year research project, and writing a paper on technology in poultry production. Instead I'm flipping through peoples blogs reading about how they found some cool stuff for their kids of craigslist..WTF people.....WTF..?
So boys and girls, I leave you with this thought: Are we as bloggers creating a mass of useless and uninteresting content for the web that no human being in their right mind would want to read? AND furthermore, are we so mentally handicapped that we want to read about other peoples kids...and stock car racing all day?
Peace out for now.

First Post
Greetings void of cyberspace. This is my first post, maybe someone will even read it. My goal with this blog is to update the world on my day to day life, the day to day life of a university student managing school, a job, Theater and just life in general. All the while, pondering some of life's mystery's, great people, new discoveries and whatever oddities I happen to dream up. My hope is to be entertaining to whoever may stumble across this place.
Like my profile says, I'm a student of the sciences, animal science to be more exact. I do enjoy my field of study, however I like to consider myself more rounded than just that. I am an aquaculture minor...yes, that's right...aquaculture..for those of you who are not familiar its a lot like farming on the water. Essentially people using methods to culture fish, shellfish and or micro or macro algae for human food or food products. Its a rather interesting area of study, and there is current research into many aspects of the field, from finfish nutrition, to algal culture methods. My institution provides a pretty good program for any aspiring aquaculturalists or those who wish to conduct aquaculture research, however I feel the need to highlight a rather grave error on the part of the school. When hiring a professor to teach students first year to fourth year introductory courses in shellfish production DON'T HIRE A NUT JOB!....there I said it...absolute crazy person..The programs other professors are amazing...however the school made the mistake of hiring someone whom actually has no idea what the hell is going on 99.9% of the time. Today I learned how that came about. It seems that the department of fisheries and oceans approached the college some years ago and offered to pay this professors first year wages if the school would allow her to teach. The school agreed...FOOLS! It has been close to ten years now since this lady came to teach here...and as far back as I can go when I question people it has been the same..."Yup...that's Cathey" they say or they just shake their heads.
Now, please allow me to clear something up...this woman is not stupid. There is actually something going on with her mental state. She sometimes starts to make sense when teaching a lecture...and then completely goes off in another direction, leaving the whole class to be like..."umm..what?", Or stops mid sentence, stares at the ceiling looking lost and licking her lips like she is about to have a stroke. So mostly we sit, smile and nod. It just boggles my mind that the institution can turn a blind eye to this incompetence, whether it is the professors fault or not when people are PAYING good money to take these courses. However as you will see I'm sure in my future posts, this institution does not make choices which always make sense..in fact, 9 times out of 10 I have no idea why they do things the way they do them. Ah well, you can be the judge as I am sure I will get the opportunity to share more rants, and details of life at my college.
Until next time. I hope this wasn't too much of a bore. Next time will be better, Promise!
